Spendful: Privacy Policy

Spendful (the "App") is operated by Peppertree. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information, including the one banner ad that keeps the App free.

The App has no user accounts and no server of its own. The spending entries you write stay on your device. The only data collected from your device is collected by the advertising software described below.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Spending entries (a description, an optional amount and an optional reason for each), your streak counters and a flag that records that you finished the introduction. They are stored in the App's own storage on your device. We run no server that receives them, so we never see what you write.

Information Collected Through Advertising

The App shows one banner ad at the bottom of the History tab, served by Google AdMob. Today, Add Entry and Settings never show ads. To serve and measure ads, Google's advertising software inside the App may collect from your device:

  • Your device's advertising identifier (the iOS IDFA or the Android advertising ID), or another device identifier if you have not allowed use of the advertising identifier
  • Ad interaction data, such as which ads were shown and tapped
  • An approximate location derived from your IP address
  • Diagnostic data such as crashes and performance

Google collects and processes this information under its own policies, not ours. We do not link it to anything in the App, because the App has no name, email address or account for it to be linked to, and your entries never leave your device. Information We Do Not Collect

  • No name, email, phone number or account data. The App has no sign-in.
  • No bank, card or payment information. The App does not connect to financial institutions, and an amount you type is only text in your own journal.
  • No contacts, photos, camera or microphone access, and no precise location.
  • No analytics SDK of our own.

Other Automatically Collected Information

  • Install, crash and platform telemetry that Apple and Google may collect through the App Store and Play Store, governed by their own privacy policies.
  • Crash and diagnostic reports from the operating system, only if you have opted in to share them with developers in your device settings.

Your Choices About Ads

  • Consent form (EEA and UK). Where the law requires it, Google's consent form (Google User Messaging Platform) appears on first launch and asks whether ads may use your data. You can change your answer later in Settings > Ad privacy options, which is shown where the form applies.
  • App Tracking Transparency (iPhone). The system prompt asking whether the App may track you across other companies' apps and websites appears only after the consent step allows it. If you decline, you keep the whole App and see less relevant ads.
  • Device settings. You can limit ad personalization or reset your advertising identifier in your device's privacy settings at any time.

How We Use Information

  • To show your entries and your streak on your device.
  • To schedule one local notification, the daily 8 PM reminder, in your device's time zone.
  • To show the banner ad that keeps the App free.
  • To answer support requests you send us by email.

We never sell, rent or trade your entries, because we never receive them. Spendful is a journaling tool and does not give financial advice.

Third-Party Services

The App includes two third-party services: Google AdMob (the banner ad) and Google User Messaging Platform (the consent form). It includes no separate analytics SDK and takes no payments. Apart from the ad requests above and the standard crash and diagnostic reporting your operating system may send to Apple or Google, the App sends no data off your device. Opening the Privacy Policy, Terms or Contact page from Settings loads apps.peppertree.so in your browser.

Data Storage and Security

  • Your entries are stored in the App's sandboxed storage on your device.
  • The App does not sync to any cloud service of its own. Your phone's operating system may include the App's data in its device backup (iCloud or Android backup) according to your device settings.
  • Uninstalling the App removes the locally stored entries from your device.
  • Data collected by Google is retained under Google's policies.

Notifications

  • The daily reminder is a local notification scheduled on your device. We ask for notification permission once, at the end of the introduction, never at a later launch. If you decline, the App works without the reminder. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device's notification settings.

Your Rights

  • Access and deletion: Your entries are on your device. Delete individual entries inside the App (Undo is available for five seconds), or uninstall the App to remove everything.
  • Portability: The App has no export feature, and we hold no copy of your entries for us to export.
  • To exercise rights over data Google holds, use your Google account and device privacy controls, or Ad privacy options in Settings where it is shown.

Children's Privacy

This App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated "Last updated" date.
